The chain of Boxer stores started off under a different name. Back in 1977 the company was launched as Kwazulu Cash and Carry. By 1979 they changed their stock from basic staple food such a maize products, sugar and oil to complete retailing and opened another store. From there things just got better and by 1991 they were a fully operational chain store operating under the name Boxer Cash and Carry. By 1995 the chain broke the borders of Kwazulu Natal and was rebranded to Boxer Superstores. Over the following years Boxer grew exponentially as it merged with Goss & Co. in 1997 and became a division of Pick ‘n Pay in 2002. This helped the chain to expand to a nationwide retailer. A goal which they achieved in 2015. Last year they celebrated their 40th year with the slogan “40 years of never paying more than the Boxer price”. They place a high value on customer service and aim to please where ever they open a new store.
These days Boxer has five divisions. Boxer Superstores stocks wholesale items at low costs. Boxer Punch stocks the basic essentials. Boxer Liquors dispenses alcohol and all the related products.
